Summer Slam

It’s that time again when we announce our biggest party of the year: the 21st Annual Summer Slam, an evening of community and climbing, raising funds for our local non-profit Vertical World Climbing Team (VWCT) Fund! The VWCT fund makes it possible for kids who want to climb, to get to climb.

FAQs
Q. What is Summer Slam and will it hurt?
Summer Slam is an annual climbing party we throw for our community at the end of summer. This will be our 21st Summer Slam! Nothing gets slammed but remember that Climbing is Dangerous.
Q. What is there to do at this party?
Climbing competition, food trucks, Biergarten benefiting Team Fund (non-profit), live DJ, vendors, games, nice people!
Q. Can I bring my damaged Patagonia gear to Summer Slam and have it repaired?
Funny you should ask. Patagonia will have a repair table at Summer Slam!
Q. What type of comp is this?
Just like a traditional climbing comp, with 40 routes (boulders, top rope, and lead). Your score will be based on your 5 best climbs.
Q. Why don’t you have a non-binary category?
We want everybody to compete in the category that feels right to them. For now, that means competitors choose between F/M categories. We’ve tried other formats in the past and are always interested in suggestions. Send comments to events@verticalworld.com
Q. What are the age categories?
Kids (0-13)
Adult (14-39) Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Masters (40-108)
Points will determine adult category placement; no need to guess into which you fit.
Q. What’s the raffle about?
Each competitor will receive 1 raffle ticket with their entry fee. All other party-goers can buy tickets from the Team Fund. All your raffle tickets go in the pot for the prize you most want to win or spread your luck throughout the prize offerings.
Q. How do I sign up?
Sign-ups are seattle.verticalworld.com for the Climbing Competition. No need to sign up to party.
Q. How much does it cost?
Climbing Competition is $25 for members and $50 for non-members. Sign-up online. Receive a T-shirt, meal ticket, and 1 raffle ticket!
The PARTY is FREE for members!
Non-members must purchase a day-pass to use the facility (like if you are going to workout upstairs).
Spectating is free for everyone.
EVERYONE must have a valid waiver on file to enter the facility.
Limited edition T-shirts are available to purchase, price TBD.
Q. When is check-in?
The gym will be CLOSED for a half hour before the event, from 4:00-4:30. EVERYONE MUST CHECK IN, beginning at 4:30.
Q. When does the Comp start?
The Comp is 5:30-8:30
Q. When is the raffle?
Raffle and Comp awards are from 9:00-9:30. Doors close at 10pm.
Q. Must I be present to win raffle prizes?
Yes, we will call out the ticket number three times and then draw again.
